My Year 2008 by Steven Vogel from BLACKLODGES

What is your best memory of 2008 ?
My wife telling me I am going to be a dad. At first I thought I was going to fall over and freak out but then and now I am the happiest dude on the planet. Apart from that, hanging out with my friends in the summer, doing what we do best, skating, eating, drinking, partying, having fun.

What disappointed you the most in 2008 ?
Politics, here at home and internationally. I feel like I am being radicalized by the sheer ineptitude of our politicians.

Which brand had the best creative direction in your opinion ?
Oh, there were a lot of great brands in 08! Garbstore, Mountain and Naval Research, Band of Outsiders, Engineered Garments, Bedwin for example all really excited me.
Your favorite sneakers of 2008 ?
Vans, since 1991.
Fuck, 99% of the art shows were in retrospect nothing but cool guy jack off free beer meets
Your favourite art show of the year ?
in 2008? Fuck, 99% of the art shows were in retrospect nothing but cool guy jack off free beer meets. Real Art shows, the Jeff Koons exhibit in Berlin was interesting, so was the Art week in Berlin, but only marginally so. There is a Joe Coleman Show here in Hamburg in a couple of weeks that I am really looking forward to though.
We’ll get a lot of the same Urban crap twanged with streetwear, but the skateboarding old school orientated streetwear is gone, or at least changed
Your favorite gadget/accessory of 2008 ?
My Digital Camera.
The most surprising collaboration this year ?
None that were materialized. There were a couple of really good projects and ideas floating around but they didn’t happen. Maybe this year.
With the financial markets returning to a more realistic state of being, I think a lot of the riff raff we’ve been seeing will disappear
Do you think that 2008 has been a good year for us ? Do you think that people are going in the right direction ?
Even though it wouldn’t appear to be so, but yes. With the financial markets returning to a more realistic state of being, I think a lot of the riff raff we’ve been seeing will disappear. Essentially, I hope that all the bullshit will go away and only the strongest, in regards to every aspect of this business, will survive. I think that s a good thing.

What do you expect from year 2009 ? What are your plans for 2009 ?
I expect all the crap to disappear. Realistically, and even though a lot of people are afraid to say this, streetwear as we knew it, is pretty dead. We’ll get a lot of the same Urban crap twanged with streetwear, but the skateboarding old school orientated streetwear is gone, or at least changed. We’ll see a lot of interesting new menswear and so on. My plans are pretty simple. Have fun, get paid, be a dad and have more fun.
